nb: Catholic Canon has 46 Old Testament and 27 New Testament Books for a total of 73 Canonical Bools of The Bible. inclusive of what is commonly called the Deuterocanonical (aka Apocryphal Books) and some additional citations removed by Orthodox Jews from original Hebrew Scripture as Christianity spread and again later in the 1500's by Protestants who left the Catholic faith. Interestingly enough, the Deuterocanonical books were translated in not only the Douay-Reims Bible, but also the original King James Bible of 1611.
New American Bible (approved by USCCB for use in United States)
Douay-Reims This version of the Bible is a direct and literal translation of the Latin and has been with the Church since the 1300's.
Biblia Sacra Vulgata aka. Latin Vulgate Bible, by Saint Jerome, 382 A.D.
Septuagint aka: LXX. Greek Transalation of the Hebrew Old Testament with apocryphal books from 300-200 B.C. (more info). (sometimes abbreviated LXX) is the name given to the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures. The term "Septuagint" means seventy in Latin, and the text is so named to the credit the 70 scholars involved . the "70" refers to the scholars commissioned to translate the ancient Hebrew texts.
Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition (also known as the RSV-CE) is a revision of the Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible for use by Catholics. It was used for the English translation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, has been used by Pope Benedict XVI for his English translations, and has been endorsed by Archbishop Burke, used by the Navarre commentary, many appologists, EWTN, etc. It is also known as the Ignatius Bible. It is published by Ignatius Press, Oxford Press and Sceptre Publishers. It contains all of the Deuterocanonical books. The Second Edition is the only English Bible that is in accord with Liturgiam Authenticam, the Vatican Instruction on transalation that does not use colloquial replacement of syntax with dynamic translations, but is more true to the actual Latin. It is not approved for use in the Mass in the United States at this time.
